Built for Golfers
Weighing in at just 6.8 ounces with batteries and boasting a transflective color 3-inch touchscreen, the Approach is your featherweight fairway guide regardless of the lighting conditions. IPX7 waterproofing means that the device can withstand accidental immersion as well--but thankfully, you'll be avoiding water hazards, of course.
Eliminate the Guesswork
The Approach displays and updates your exact position on stunningly detailed, preloaded course maps throughout the United States. Click to see Garmin's current Approach G5 course listing. Approach's highly sensitive GPS receiver pinpoints your position and removes guesswork from your game. And as you move, Approach automatically updates your position, so you'll always know your yardage. There's no subscription or setup fees, and Approach is compliant with USGA rules.
Touch Your Target
Need to measure distances for your next shot? Touch any point on the sunlight-readable display, and Approach shows the precise distance to that exact spot--fairway; hazard; landing area; or the front, middle, and back of the green.
Get on the Green
Zero in on the pin with Approach's Green View. Just tap the flag on the map to zoom in on the green--then you can drag the flag to position it where you see it, giving you more accurate yardage.
Keep Score Digitally
Approach doubles as a digital scorecard for your foursome. After the game, you can save and review the scores on your computer at home.

User Reviews about Garmin Approach G5 GPS-Enabled Golf Handheld
Garmin Approach G5 has been excellent buy for me. Easy to use, can see in all lighting conditions, and touch targeting is great. It's simply a great tool and all my playing partners keep asking me for yardage. You won't regret this purchase. -- Great product, works for me
I received the Garmin Approach about 2 weeks ago & have now had the opportunity to use it a few times. It basically seems to work well. However, I was quite suprised by how bulky & heavy it is when compared to other such devices. I feel like I'm carrying a laptop (exaggeration) around in my pocket. It's not so much the height & width as it is the depth weight. The depth could have easily been significantly reduced if Garmin had designed it with a thin cell chargeable battery instead of these bulky AA's. My other complaint is removing / replacing the batteries to recharge is much more cumbersome than simply plugging in a charge chord. My guess is their next iteration of this device will eliminate this rediculous AA Battery design.
My second issue is that I've consistently found it quite difficult to accurately place the circle marker on the touch screen. It always seem to settle at a location other than where my finger attempted to place it. And, when I'm golfing, I need a quick no nonsense tool. On the golf course, I already have way too much to think about - yet alone adding a finicky device that seems to have a mind of it's own.
I'll need a little more time with this device. But, at this point, I'm not convinced I'd buy one of these if I had it to do all over again. Stepping off the yardage from the closest marker & fudging for pin placement seems to be close enough for non government work in my book. -- Garmin Approach works but way too bulky
I wish I had gone into [...] and viewed the current courses available before buying. When I received my G5 I could not find one course in central Pennsylvania that I played. Directions said to send them a scorecard of new courses to be entered. I expected Garmin to have provided the course work. I wanted to use it now, not wait for them to add my courses. -- Lack of courses
Garmin G-5 is all the company claims it is except for the lighting. You need to be in the bright light to read it well.In the shade or on a dark day it's hard to see the info...otherwise there is nothing bad to say about it. -- Garmin best of GPS's
