3M Ergonomic Mouse SMALL/MEDIUM

3M This mouse is clinically proven to alleviate pain and discomfort of repetitive stress injuries in the hand, wrist or arm associated with the use of traditional mice—which can pronate the forearm and wrist and typically presses the wrist and carpal tunnel area against the desk. The 3M Ergonomic Mouse has earned an Ease-of-Use Commendation from the Arthritis Foundation for its patented, vertical grip design that keeps your hand and wrist at a neutral angle, while the mouse works as a regular optical mouse. Grip the handle and rest your hand on the base. Use your thumb to left and right click. Optical sensor, USB/PS2 plug and play compatibility and a 6.5 ft. cord for flexible use. Available in original black design. For right-handed use. 2 year warranty.

User Reviews about 3M Ergonomic Mouse SMALL MEDIUM

I found it difficult to use a conventional mouse because of arthritis and my tremor. After using this mouse for two years, the pain has gone away, and I can keep my mousing tremor under control. It is a very comfortable mouse. -- Best Mouse
I work at the computer all day long, and have tried many, many different pointing devices to help relieve the carpal tunnel syndrome on my wrist. The best option is using the touchpad like the ones on laptops, but I can't because it lacks the precision and speed that I need. Another alternative is the track point like the ones on Lenovo laptops, but you can't do this all day because after a while your finger gets pretty tired. I have also tried all variations of trackballs, none of which have been very helpful.

I've had this device for about a week now, and I can say that it does help quite a bit, so I'll be using it for a while. But I've also found several drawbacks that keeps it from being a full-time mouse.

First, the mouse is designed so that your hand rests on it completely. The problem is the weight of your hand and forearm makes it harder to move, and to move smoothly, making mouse movements jerky and imprecise. Resting your forearm on the edge of the table helps, but this introduces stress and discomfort on forearm. Lifting your hand slightly lightens the pressure on the mouse and helps movement, but then your arm becomes fatigued after a while. You certainly can't do this all day long at the computer.

Second, the joystick on the mouse is way too small and forces your fingers to curve more tightly. Trust me, this can become tiring after a while. I think the joystick should be much bigger so that your fingers can curve naturally around it.

I have not had a problem with the thumb buttons because they are very light to activate, but can see how it could be tiring for some after a while. The "right-click" button requires your thumb to move sideways unnaturally, so if you right-click a lot this may be a problem down the road. I find the "middle" button largely useless, and yet it's quite big and can be easily clicked on accidentally.

Despite these drawbacks, I find that it relieves my CTS symptoms enough that I will be using it part of the time. Until a better mouse comes along, that is. -- It does help, but could be better
This did provide some relief to my sore wrist and hand. After a while I feel some strain in my arm. I don't care for the button that activates the scroll function ... it would be better to have a scroll wheel. Other than that it's nice and simple to use. I eventually bought a Kensington trackball with scroll wheel, and I use that mostly, but I still use this 3M ergo mouse regularly for short periods. -- Fairly good
This mouse is great for those of us with RSI problems. I have had four of these mice over the past 6 years. Like others have stated, the tracking isn't great and it can break when traveling but in my opinion, the design makes up for those flaws.

A worthwhile purchase. -- Great for RSI injuries
